Turkish Airlines launches TRY 100b investment initiative

Turkish Airlines has unveiled a significant investment initiative valued at over TRY 100 billion (£1.73 billion), designed to bolster Türkiye’s aviation infrastructure and enhance the airline's global competitiveness. This strategic move, aligned with the airline's 2033 vision, includes the development of eight new facilities, primarily at Istanbul Airport.

The groundbreaking ceremony at Istanbul Airport was attended by key figures, including Türkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, and Turkish Airlines Chairman, Ahmet Bolat. Uraloğlu remarked, "These projects will further strengthen not only Turkish Airlines' wings but also those of Türkiye's economy." The initiative is expected to generate 26,000 new jobs in 2026.

Key projects include the expansion of the Turkish Cargo SmartIST facility, set to increase its capacity to 4.5 million tonnes by 2028, and the establishment of a new main catering facility capable of serving over 500,000 passengers daily. Additionally, a new engine maintenance centre will be one of Europe's largest, enhancing Turkish Technic's capabilities.

Bolat highlighted the initiative's role in supporting Turkish Airlines' ambition to become one of the world's top airlines, stating, "This investment strengthens our global competitiveness and is a concrete evidence of our vision to make Türkiye one of the world's foremost aviation hubs."

These developments are part of Turkish Airlines' broader strategy to expand its operational capacity and technical infrastructure, aiming to position itself among the world's five largest fleets by 2033.
