Films and series shown on television will influence holiday decisions during the peak booking period, ABTA has predicted.
Many television shows has inspired holidaymakers throughout the year and the association thinks this will continue in the next few weeks.
Based on Christmas scheduling this could see British customers heading to the Greek islands featured in Mamma Mia!; the Austrian Alps from the Sound of Music or the Dolomite Mountains where Bear Grylls and Stephen Fry will be travelling to.
Michael Palin is also on his adventures again this time in Pennsylvania and Maine, while Downton Abbey and ‘Death comes to Pemberley’ are expected to show off the UK.
“It’s not just travel shows that inspire people’s holiday choices, any TV programme or film that showcases a destination strongly can be incredibly influential,” said ABTA’s head of communications Victoria Bacon. “Christmas represents a time when friends and family come together to share ideas and inspiration, often ahead of booking their holiday in January, so that makes television and film particularly influential during this time.”
