Twenty travel companies expected to close by 2011

Experts have predicted that up to 20 travel companies could go bust by the end of this year, it was revealed today. World Travel Market’s Chairman Fiona Jeffery said that ‘far more than usual’ businesses were closing, as the UK still recovers from the recession. “As we face the challenges of the future for SMEs in the UK and Europe, it is essential that we do everything possible to help travel companies address the problems, maintain market share and bottom line,” she explained. As a result, the event has signed up Lord Digby Jones to headline WTM Business Day on 11 November. Lord Jones will advise SMEs on how to cope during the economic climate in a keynote speech at 11am. He will be joined by Former Hoseasons Chief Executive Richard Carrick; Travel Counsellors Managing Director Steve Byrne; Getabed.co.uk Managing director Matt Stewart and Barclary Commercial Head of Travel Chris Lee. Free 15 minute one-to-one sessions will also run from 11am to 1pm so visitors can gain advice particular to their business. Professionals from technology, gay marketing, spa & wellness, adventure travel and responsible tourism will be on hand.
