The organiser of the biggest travel fair in town is rolling out more such events this year to meet Singaporeans’ pent-up demand for holidays.
The National Association for Travel Agents Singapore (Natas), which already holds two travel fairs a year in February and August, will now add two more – in May and October or November.
Called Natas Journeys, the two additional fairs will be held just before the mid-year and end-year school holidays, to cope with last-minute bookings.
Natas chief executive officer Robert Khoo said on Friday: ‘We saw many people travelling in December and Chinese New Year. Our August fair also did well. All signs seem to say that things will get better, not worse.’
Natas is confident of raking in SG$50 million in sales at this weekend’s fair, after falling short of that target bySG$5 million last February.
A Mastercard survey of 400 people here done this month found that about 40% are willing to spend on air travel, compared to 30% polled in an earlier survey six months ago. Abacus, an information service provider used by travel agents, is forecasting up to 5% growth in bookings in the first quarter this year in Asia-Pacific.
