Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) has announced it has seen an increase in overnight visitor numbers by 25% for the first half of this year. Meanwhile, 47, 329 Brits headed to the destination between January and August this year following a range of trade initiatives. These include fam trips, agent training and joint marketing initiatives. “We are delighted with these figures which are a result of our ongoing efforts to promote Jordan to both UK trade and consumers,” explained JTB Country Manager UK and Ireland David Symes. He identified four major factors to the success. “UK tour operators featuring Jordan are up on 2009; the numbers of semi-independent travellers who self package their holidays are up; we have noted an increased volume of tourists during the winter months of January and February due to holidaymakers steadily becoming aware that the Red Sea resort of Aqaba and the Dead Sea are year-round destinations,” he said. “Lastly, there has been a rise in non-touring holidaymakers seeking longer, 4-7 night luxury or spa holidays basing themselves in one resort.” As a result, Symes said the tourism board was anticipating positive arrival results throughout this year.
