A fifth of Britons plan to take at least one overnight stay in the UK during the double bank holiday week, according to VisitEngland. The tourist authority’s Trip Tracker has found that 10.3 million Brits (21 percent of the population) will take a UK stay during this period and 17 percent will take the break in England. Meanwhile, the survey found that seven percent of Brits would head overseas. “These figures indicate a boost for tourism at the start of what promises to be an exciting 18 months ahead,” said Lady Cobham, chairman of VisitEngland. Meanwhile, the Tower Bridge is said to have been capital’s most visited site on the day of the London Marathon this year. According to figures from the London Sightseeing Pass, the bridge and its exhibition were the most popular sites, followed by a River Thames tour by boat. “London’s top attractions on the marathon route enjoyed a bumper Sunday as supporters extended their energy to packing in sightseeing at the capital’s historical hot spots,” said Amanda Truman, director of product marketing at the Leisure Pass Group, which makes the passes.
