UK introduces business visitor visa

TheUK has introduced a new business visitor visa which aims to make clear thedistinction between short- and longer-term business visitors, according to aHogg Robinson Group (HRG) alert for business travellers.
Thenew business visitor visa, which came into effect in November last year, willaffect business travellers from visa national countries (visa nationals beingthose requiring a visa to enter the UK), such as China, Vietnam, Thailand,Cambodia and the Philippines.
Visitorsfrom these countries arriving in the UK for business trips of up to six monthsmust apply for the business visitor visa. Business visitors from non-visanational countries such as Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong are exempted fromthis new stipulation.
JamesStevenson, HRG’s Executive Vice-President - Asia Pacific, said; “The UKauthorities now require business visitors to provide evidence that they are inthe country for permissible business-related activities such as attendingmeetings or conferences; arranging deals, negotiating or signing contracts ortrade agreements; conducting site visits and promotional activities;undertaking fact finding missions to obtain information useful to a branchabroad as well as checking details or goods.”
While the business visitor visa grants a maximumperiod of six months of stay, academic visitors are allowed to stay for amaximum of 12 months.
