The UK travel trade is being urged to raise funds for five-month-old Charlie, the son of a former travel agent who needs extra care and support due to a life-threatening condition.
ABTA is calling on delegates at its current conference in Greece and the wider travel industry to donate funds to help the little boy who was born with vocal chord palsy and underwent an emergency tracheostomy.
“He can’t laugh or cry so we need to come together as an industry and really make some noise for him,” said ABTA LifeLife, the ABTA charitable trust.
ABTA is asking travel industry employees to donate £1 each to raise the £15,000 his family needs to provide a safe home environment for Charlie, who requires 24-hour monitoring.
If he receives this specialist care, after two years Charlie will be strong enough to undergo surgery to correct his airways.
