British Airways could face more strike action in January after Unite announced it will ballot its members this week. Tony Woodley, joint general secretary of Unite, said its cabin crew members were still being ‘harassed and disciplined’ following the on-going dispute and said a ballot could be finalised later this week. However the union has maintained that it is willing to talk to BA and is set to meet the airline on Monday through Acas. In response, BA called Unite ‘dysfunctional’ and said the news created ‘fresh uncertainty’. “Tony Woodley shook hands with us on an agreement in October, and said he would let cabin crew vote on the deal with a recommendation for acceptance,” it said in a statement. “In recent days, Unite has changed its position yet again, calling for fresh talks then announcing a strike ballot before such talks take place.” BA has vowed to run all flights from Gatwick and London City, as well as all long-haul schedules from Heathrow. It expects Heathrow’s short-haul flights to be mainly affected. Meanwhile, BA’s merger with Iberia was confirmed today.
