UNWTO forecasts 5% growth in global tourism

International tourist arrivals on a global level are tipped to rise 4-5% this year. The UNWTO announced its forecast on Friday in north Tianjin Municipality, according Xinhua reports.
Growth rebounded sharply between 2009-10 with 940 billion tourist arrivals, a record year on year increase of over 7%, and global tourism revenues reached US$919 billion. This year will see further growth, driven buy continued economic recovery and development of emerging economies where tourism is becoming increasingly important.
China is among those nations and in a meeting with UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai, Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan called for China’s tourism sector to shift development priorities from quantity to structure, quality and efficiency. Wang confirmed that tourism is a major pillar in the government’s economic development plan and called for the improvement of relevant mechanisms, regulations, and services, so as to ensure tourism safety and promote better development of the sector.
