Work is underway to upgrade U-tapao, the military-operated airport that catered for passengers during the closure of Bangkok’s airports late last year. According to a Bangkok Post report, a THB995 million (US$29.3 million) expansion plan will see a new passenger terminal, improved taxiways, fuel depots, firefighting systems, X-ray machines, cargo units and other facilities. U-tapao is also a gateway for the eastern Thai resort of Pattaya, and is used by Bangkok Airways for flights to Phuket and Samui.
