The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will open the upgraded Ahmedabad airport by March 2009, Anil Mathur reports. At a cost of INR2.9 billion (US$58 million), new developments include advanced navigational, operational and passenger amenities.
Meanwhile in Aurangabad, Maharashtra state, the AAI has spent INR950 million upgrading the airport’s fire station, control tower and terminal building.
The work has reportedly been financed with a Japanese government grant, given Aurangabad’s popularity with Japanese visitors for its Buddhist pilgrimage sites.
