Visitors to museums in the US will soon be able to get a close up view of the country’s space programme. Three retired space shuttles and one prototype will be sent to museums across the US, the BBC has reported. The Discovery shuttle will be based at the Air & Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia, while Atlantis will be based at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center. The Endeavour will be on show to visitors at the California Science Center in Los Angeles, and the Enterprise prototype will go to the Intrepid Museum in New York.
The shuttles had been in popular demand, with 21 museums across the US bidding for them. NASA announced the resting places of the four shuttles in Florida on the 30th anniversary of the first space shuttle flight.
