VAT refunds for tourists in Indonesia

The Indonesian Directorate General of Taxation has appointed eight retail companies to introduce the first phases of the new VAT refund scheme available to tourists. According to a BaliDiscovery.com the scheme is currently only available at selected ships in Jakarta and Bali, but the number of participating merchants will grow over time. Those wishing to take advantage of the refund must present their passport at the time of purchase, with a minimum spend of IDR5 million (US$548).
