The Dhoot-led company had earlier tried to enter the area, along with Cathay Pacific airlines, when it bid for the Indian Airlines, as part of the disinvestment of the government-owned carrier. But the proposal did not take off the ground, as the proposal to offload IA was given up by the government.
Dhoot, who also heads the ASSOCHAM, chamber of commerce in India, now plans to launch a new company, Videocon Aviation, to bid for new airports, and modernise the existing ones.
Industry watchers said that the move will be followed closely, to see if Dhoot could make a success of the new venture, as he has in the TV sector.
