VietJet Air has finalised a major order for up to 101 Airbus A320-series aircraft.
The low-cost carrier placed an order for 14 A320s, seven A321s and 42 new A320neo aircraft, with options for a further 30 aircraft. VietJet will also lease eight more A320s. The order was confirmed at the Singapore Airshow.
“The A320 has proven to be extremely efficient in service with VietJet Air and is a favourite with our passengers,” said Luu Duc Khanh, VietJet’s managing director. “Based on this experience, we look forward to developing our business across the Asia Pacific region.”
Having previously agreed to partner AirAsia in Vietnam, VietJet eventually launched on its own in late 2011. It has since expanded to a fleet of 11 A320s and a route network covering 20 routes, including domestic destinations Bangkok, Seoul and Kunming.
The airline is also now planning to launch a Bangkok-based subsidiary, Thai VietJet Air.
