Virgin Atlantic withholds airport fees for BAA because of "slow reaction"

British carrier Virgin Atlantic is to withhold the airport fees it pays Heathrow operator BAA because of its “slow reaction” to December’s heavy snow. Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin - one of BAA’s biggest customers - has told the operator it will hold out paying its airport charges before the end of BAA’s full inquiry, due at the end of March. BAA told the BBC that Heathrow’s conditions of use provided no basis for the airline to withhold charges. Before Christmas, BAA’s new non-executive director, Sir David Begg, launched an inquiry into “what went wrong” at Heathrow where flights were grounded for days.
