Virgin Australia has signed a major new deal with Abacus International, with the travel technology company becoming the airline’s preferred distribution partner. The partnership will allow Virgin Australia to leverage and promote Abacus as its preferred GDS through joint sales and marketing activities across Asia.
As part of the agreement, Virgin Australia has also upgraded its connectivity with Abacus. Connected agents will now have full access to Virgin Australia’s fares and inventory, as well as those of its interline and codeshare partners, such as Singapore Airlines.
“The agreement with Virgin Australia is an excellent match for Abacus, whereby we will connect our extensive Asia Pacific network with Virgin’s wide range of Australian and Pacific destinations. We are committed to strengthen our position in the region and deliver additional value to our customers,” said Ho Hoong Mau, Abacus’ Division Head of Airline Distribution.
“We are extremely proud to be recognised as the preferred GDS partner of Virgin Australia, and look forward to extending the partnership to the rest of the Virgin Australia Group of Airlines including V Australia in the near future. It is definitely the start of a rewarding long-term relationship for both sides and we will seek to make immediate contributions to Virgin Australia’s integrated alliance with Singapore Airlines. Overall, customers stand to benefit as they can tap Abacus’ leading network of agencies to book Virgin Australia’s expanded network of destinations and seamless connections,” Ho added.
“Choosing the right partner for the region is instrumental to underpinning the expansion and growth plans of our growing international alliance network, and that is why we chose Abacus,” said Justin Montgomery, Virgin Australia’s General Manager for Sales.
