Virgin Blue cuts flights

The airline said it was notwithdrawing from any of its markets, instead taking flights from high frequencyroutes where capacity could be consolidated.
The reduction in flights willimpact up to 400 full-time Virgin Blue staff, who have been offered leavewithout pay, shorter hours and transfers to international airline V Australia.
“While we started the month ofMarch with a challenge to reduce our operational fleet by five aircraft andtherefore 400 positions, it is because of their flexibility and spirit ofco-operation that we will likely manage our way through this phase with fewerredundancies than initially indicated,” said Virgin Blue Chief Executive, BrettGodfrey.
