Tuesday, 30 March 2010: The Virgin Blue Airlines Group has launched a new car hire booking site which allows Guests to search and select from a broad range of car hire companies, car types and prices across local and global destinations.
The launch of the new site coincides with the expansion of Virgin Blue’s range of car rental partners, adding Hertz and Thrifty to its long-standing Partnership with Europcar.
Virgin Blue, V Australia and Pacific Blue Guests can easily search and compare car hire companies within the one convenient website. Rentals with Europcar, Hertz and Thrifty will include an additional incentive of Velocity Points - the higher your Velocity Membership status the more Points you will earn within Australia and New Zealand. All International rentals will receive a flat rate of 800 Velocity Points.
Virgin Blue Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, Brett Godfrey, said: “The new Partnerships with the globally recognised brands Hertz and Thrifty will now give our Velocity Members expanded choice and they can now earn Velocity Points at all three car rental partners across Australia, New Zealand and around the world.”
“We have long been pleased with our relationship with Europcar and are particularly excited by now being able to count Hertz and Thrifty as partners too, because it means our Guests can choose to stay with their preferred car hire provider when they fly with us - and, of course, we have always been a champion of providing consumers with more choice and the benefits of true competition,’ he said.
Jacqueline Lehmann, Region Vice President and Managing Director of Hertz Australia, said: “The new partnership between Hertz Australia and the Virgin Group of Airlines is a significant and exciting development for Hertz, and one which will add great value and offer more choice for the business and leisure customers of both companies,”
Thrifty CEO, Bryn McGoldrick, said: “Thrifty is delighted to establish a new relationship with the Virgin Blue Airlines Group. We are confident that we can offer Virgin Blue Guests genuine value and an excellent customer experience. As part of the NRMA Motoring & Services group, with over 2 million members located throughout NSW and the ACT, we feel we bring a new and exciting dimension to this important partnership and we look forward to working with Virgin Blue, V Australia and Pacific Blue to provide great offers and service to their guests. This is an exciting opportunity for Thrifty and we look forward to a long and rewarding relationship with an airline that shares our passion for quality and great value.”
Since 2002 Virgin Blue has offered Guests great value car hire through its successful Partnership with Europcar.
Ron Santiago, Managing Director of Europcar Australia and New Zealand, said: “Europcar is extremely pleased to build on the successful 8 year partnership with Virgin Blue for a further 3 years. With the Virgin Blue Airlines Group expanding their services, Europcar is excited in being able to provide outstanding vehicles with great rates to Virgin customers in their new destinations, whilst continuing to provide renters with the opportunity to earn Velocity Points.”
Virgin Blue’s new car hire booking site is powered by “Car Trawler”, a global car rental distribution system, which will drive greater choice and excellent value for money to Virgin Blue Guests and Velocity Members. Car Trawler’s COO, Mike McGearty, said: “We are delighted to be part of this new and exciting development with The Virgin Blue Airlines Group. Our multi-supplier search engine allows all Virgin Blue passengers to search in confidence for the best car rental deals.”
