Australia’s second largest carrier, Virgin Blue, saw pre-tax profits slump 54.7% in the first half of 2008, the Herald Sun has reported. The carrier made AU$97.7 million (US$84.5 million) during the 6 month period, marking a significant downturn from 2007, when Virgin Blue saw 12 months profits of AU$216 (US$189 million). High jet fuel prices were said to be the main cause of the decline.
