Spanish carrier Vueling has reported a seat load factor increase to 66.5 percent for last month. The company carried 642,543 passengers in January, representing a 2.7 percent increase year on year. As previously announced, Vueling will end 2011 with the addition of 14 new aircraft, bolstering its fleet to 47. Six Airbus A320 aircraft will be added progressively between April and June, with a further three, including one A319, coming on line before year end. “The additional aircraft are necessary to meet forecasted growth and enable Vueling to meet its goal of lowering the average age of its fleet,” read a statement from the airline. Five more aircraft will be incorporated into its Madrid base, following a newly struck agreement with Iberia, whereupon Vueling will assume part of their operations at Madrid-Barajas airport for at least eight months.
