The associate vice president & general manager of Royal Caribbean Cruise Line talks us through the fine cuisine found onboard Celebrity Cruises….
Whether it’s couples clamouring to get a table at the latest ‘it’ pop-up restaurant or busy professionals setting their PVRs to make sure they don’t miss out on the latest episode of The Great British Bake Off or MasterChef, food has never been bigger and growing numbers of holidaymakers are looking for ways to satisfy their culinary sweet tooth.
For cruisers and new to cruise alike, it’s an exciting time to be a food and wine lover with Celebrity Cruises. And to help showcase our own industry-leading culinary credentials, we recently exhibited at one of the UK’s famed foodie festivals, Taste of London earlier this month.
Our onboard chefs rubbed shoulders with the likes of culinary wizards Raymond Blanc and Michel Roux Jr, while treating guests to sushi demonstrations, wine tasting sessions and much more. The festival was part of our drive to get people’s attention and to do more to bring our brands to life. After four days exhibiting in front of upwards of 50,000 attendees, we’re confident that our restaurants, dishes and onboard talent have whet the whistles of countless new to cruisers, and at least one of whom has already booked a cruise having enjoyed a ‘taste’ of what we can offer!
The food festival also provided the perfect forum to introduce our second season of European immersive wine cruises onboard Celebrity Infinity featuring world leading wine connoisseur Oz Clarke.
Following an extremely successful first season in 2012, Oz is back and later this autumn will play host to another round of wine travel experiences, taking in the vineyards of France, Spain and Portugal.
Designed to wow the palates of food and wine fans, guests on the 12 October 2013 sailing will once again get the chance to get up close and personal with some of Europe’s best vintages and enjoy exclusive wine masterclasses with Oz. Those onboard will also have the opportunity to enjoy activities such as Champagne brunches, Bordeaux samplings, lessons in how to pair wine and food, as well as a range of shore excursions visiting renowned chateaux and vineyards.
Whether it’s traipsing across a romantic vineyard, clinking classes over a bottle from the world’s largest wine collection at sea, or ordering a selection of sushi lollipops off an iPad at one of our speciality restaurants, the menu (literally) of what agents can offer potential customers is truly exceptional. Happy selling and bon appetite.
