Construction work has started on a major new tourism complex in New South Wales.
The AU$3 million (US$2.2m) project in Port Stephens will include the extension and complete renovation of the existing Pacific Dunes Summer House, which is attached to the 18-hole, Greg Norman-designed Pacific Dunes golf course.
Once work is completed, the facility will feature a brand new 200-seat function centre, a new reception area, restaurant, lounge and terraces overlooking the golf course.
Pacific Dunes also features a 25-metre swimming pool and tennis courts, and is located 5km from the 95-room Mercure Newcastle Airport, which is set to open on 1 August 2015.
“It’s hard to beat the appeal of a meeting or corporate function on a sweeping, championship golf course, so this exciting new facility will certainly help grow our region’s appeal to business event organisers,” said Rebecca Morley, MICE manager for Destination Port Stephens.
The expansion project is expected to take six months to complete, meaning the complex will be ready for the Christmas and New Year period.
