Construction has started on the “Friendship Causeway” which will eventually link Bahrain with its Gulf neighbour, Qatar, Gulf News has reported. Billed as the world’s longest marine causeway, construction of the 45km, US$3 billion project is designed to boost trade in the region.
According to Bahrain Gateway, the bridge will take approximately four years to complete, with twin carriageway roads cutting journey time between the countries to around 30 minutes. The causeway will also provide a connection for future high-speed rail lines, the report added.
