A French Riviera property, inspired by the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, has been sold for EUR500 million (US$736m), the BBC has reported. The price tag makes it the world’s most expensive house, smashing the previous record of US$217 million paid by Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal for a property in London’s Kensington Palace Gardens. The buyer of the Cote d’Azur property has not been named, but is thought to be Russian.
