Wyndham Hotel Group signed a new deal that will see it enter Myanmar for the first time.
The company has penned a franchise agreement for the 260-room Wyndham Grand Yangon Royal Lake, which will form part of the Kantharyar Centre project overlooking Kandawgyi Lake. The US$157 million complex will also include a residential building, serviced apartments, an office tower and a shopping centre.
Facilities at the hotel will include a banqueting hall, two conference rooms, a swimming pool, gym, spa and restaurants.
“Myanmar is growing in popularity among business and leisure travellers and we continue to be at the forefront of emerging markets,” said Barry Robinson, Wyndham’s president & managing director for Southeast Asia and Pacific Rim.
“The country’s rich culture, political stability and recent tourism efforts, including the expansion of its e-visa programme and the construction of a new international airport, will continue to help draw more visitors, creating greater demand for high-quality, internationally recognised hotel brands like Wyndham.”
The new hotel will boost Wyndham’s presence in the region, where it currently operates 60 hotels under the Wyndham, Ramada, Days Inn, Microtel Inn & Suites and Tryp brands. It also has a similar number of properties under development.
