Journey Beyond, Australia's leading experiential tourism group, has announced its acquisition of the Crocodile Hotel operations in the Northern Territory's Kakadu National Park. This move aligns with the company's mission to connect guests with Australia's most remarkable destinations through immersive hospitality experiences. The Crocodile Hotel, uniquely shaped like a saltwater crocodile, is a renowned tourism icon located in Jabiru.
The acquisition complements Journey Beyond's existing Northern Territory attractions, including The Ghan and Ayers Rock Resort. Chris Tallent, CEO of Journey Beyond, expressed excitement about the addition, stating, "This property is more than just a place to stay; it is a gateway to the heart of Kakadu." The company plans significant investments to enhance the hotel's offerings whilst honouring its heritage.
The Crocodile Hotel features 110 rooms, the Manjmukmuk Restaurant and Bar, conference facilities, an outdoor swimming pool, and an onsite art gallery showcasing local artwork. Journey Beyond has a history of working positively with Indigenous communities, and the hotel is situated on land leased from the Mirarr Traditional Owners through the Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation Jabiru Town (GACJT). The acquisition supports the Mirarr Jabiru Masterplan, which aims to position Jabiru as a hub for eco-friendly and Indigenous cultural tourism.
The transaction is expected to be finalised in early June, with the existing management team continuing under Journey Beyond's leadership
