Loganair, the UK's largest regional airline, has entered a 15-year agreement with ClimaHtech Green Flight to secure a supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), marking a significant step towards decarbonising regional aviation. The SAF will be produced using ClimaHtech's advanced technology, which includes BioSAF and eSAF pathways, enabling decentralised production from waste biomass and renewable power sources.
This collaboration aligns with the UK Government's SAF mandate and aims to develop scalable, locally produced SAF solutions that reduce carbon emissions. ClimaHtech is currently working on a pioneering SAF production project that fits Loganair's operational footprint across the Scottish Highlands, Islands, and other regional UK routes.
Loganair CEO Luke Farajallah emphasised the airline's role in connecting UK communities, stating, "Decarbonising regional aviation is both a responsibility and a practical challenge. This agreement is an important step in securing access to SAF produced closer to where we operate."
ClimaHtech CEO Mel Courtney highlighted the agreement as a testament to the airline's confidence in their SAF pathways, noting, "Our electrically driven platform is more tolerant to intermittent renewable power supply, enabling direct connection to renewable electricity assets."
The partnership will continue to evolve as ClimaHtech advances its project development, aiming to supply SAF by 2029. This initiative underscores a shared commitment to sustainable aviation and the reduction of lifecycle carbon emissions
