Delta Air Lines has inaugurated its daily nonstop service between Hong Kong and Los Angeles, marking a significant return to one of Asia's key markets. The inaugural flight, DL89, departed from Los Angeles International Airport on 6 June, arriving at Hong Kong International Airport on 8 June, where it was greeted with a water cannon salute. The return flight, DL88, took off from Hong Kong at 9:25 am following a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by representatives from Delta, the US Consulate General, and the Hong Kong International Airport.

The new service, operated by Delta's Airbus A350-900, offers four classes: Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort, and Delta Main. Delta One Suites feature lie-flat seating, premium bedding, and a four-course meal, whilst Delta Premium Select provides wider seats and enhanced amenities. Passengers in Delta One also gain access to the new Delta One Lounge at LAX, which includes a sushi bar and wellness room.

Jeff Moomaw, Delta's Vice President for Asia Pacific, expressed gratitude to partners in Hong Kong and customers, stating, "We're proud to offer an elevated premium experience throughout their journey." The route also strengthens Delta Cargo's transpacific network, creating a vital airfreight corridor.

This service is part of Delta's broader expansion in Los Angeles, where it operates as the largest global carrier. The airline's $2.3 billion (US$2.3 billion) transformation at LAX includes the Delta Sky Way and a modern Terminal 3. As a founding partner of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Delta is poised to enhance cross-border travel leading up to 2028
