Saudi Arabia’s aviation ambitions have reached another milestone, with Saudia ranking as the world’s most punctual airline in May 2026, according to the latest figures from aviation analytics firm Cirium. The national carrier recorded an impressive 92.30 percent on-time departure rate and 90.12 percent on-time arrival rate, securing the top global position among airlines worldwide. The achievement comes after operating 13,669 flights across a network spanning more than 100 destinations on four continents. What makes the ranking particularly notable is the timing. The performance was achieved during one of the airline’s most operationally demanding periods, as it balanced regular commercial services with the arrival phase of the 2026 Hajj season, increased pilgrim traffic from around the world, and the surge in demand associated with the Eid Al-Adha holiday period.

While airline punctuality rankings are often seen as operational benchmarks, Saudia’s latest achievement also reflects a broader transformation taking place across Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector. Over the past few years, the Kingdom has rapidly expanded its aviation infrastructure, launched new carriers, invested in airport modernisation, and increased international connectivity as part of its wider tourism and economic diversification agenda.

Saudi Arabia is targeting 330 million passengers annually by 2030, alongside more than 250 international destinations, making aviation one of the key pillars supporting the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 ambitions. Against this backdrop, maintaining industry-leading punctuality while managing growing passenger volumes has become increasingly important for airlines operating in the Kingdom.

For Saudia, the ranking comes at a time when the carrier continues to play a critical role in one of the world's largest annual travel movements. Every year, millions of pilgrims travel to Saudi Arabia for Hajj and Umrah, creating complex operational demands involving aircraft scheduling, airport coordination, baggage handling, immigration processing, and ground transportation. Delivering on-time performance during this period demonstrates not only airline efficiency but also the growing maturity of the wider Saudi aviation ecosystem. The airline's performance also reflects improvements in fleet utilisation, digital operations, and network planning as Saudi carriers prepare for the next phase of growth.

The growth of tourism is adding further momentum. As Saudi Arabia welcomes increasing numbers of leisure travellers, business visitors, religious pilgrims, and event attendees, reliability and operational excellence are becoming key differentiators for airlines serving the market.
