1,346,071 passengers travelled through BHX in September 2025 – a 2.7% increase

Birmingham Airport (BHX) continues to experience passenger growth amidst busiest year ever

Birmingham Airport (BHX) has ended the summer travel season on a high with over 1.3 million passengers choosing the regional transport hub in September. 1,346,071 passengers travelled through the airport in September 2025 – a 2.7% increase compared to the same period last year.

The continued growth follows the recent announcement of a variety of upcoming routes from Birmingham Airport for the winter season including Salzburg, Sibiu and Suceava. Some of the most popular destinations for September included sunshine spots such as Malaga, Dalaman and Alicante. Dubai was the busiest long-haul route, serving over 51,000 passengers throughout the month. BHX remains on track to experience its busiest year ever with a record 14 million passengers forecast to travel through during 2025/26.

To ensure that its customers come first, the airport has also recently announced details of its innovative ‘Connected Personal Experiences’ initiative, which will see a variety of tech-driven developments rolled out to improve the passenger experience. As part of the programme, customers will soon have the opportunity to receive real-time tailored updates directly to their smartphone devices and access tailored support from an AI-powered personal assistant, BABS.

Nick Barton, CEO of Birmingham Airport said: “September has been another great month at Birmingham Airport with additional growth reported year-on-year for passenger volume. We remain on track to experience our busiest year ever in 2025/26 and to ensure this growth is sustained, we are pleased to be continuing the delivery of our most ambitious investment programme ever.”

“Looking ahead, we are delighted to be further expanding our network as we welcome the launch of new direct routes from BHX this winter including services to Suceava, Salzburg and Sibiu. This is in addition to increased frequencies and route coverage to popular wintertime destinations such as Lapland-Rovaniemi, Tallinn and Gdansk, providing our customers with even more choice for travel.”
