Richard Quest, CNN’s aviation correspondent and presenter of ‘Quest Means Business’, is embarking on an eight-day round-the-world trip using only low-cost carriers.
The journey will see Quest take flights on 10 airlines and visit 13 airports. Beginning in London, Quest will stop in Belgium, the Czech Republic, UAE, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and Hawaii, before crossing mainland USA from Los Angeles to New York, and finally returning to London.
“These airlines have democratised flying, and are now the backbone of short-haul travel in Europe, Asia and America. They’re used for business as well as leisure and are often the only way to get between certain towns and cities. But now they’re changing too, with more perks, benefits and the addition of new long-haul routes,” said Quest.
The rules for the journey are strict; Quest can only use LCCs and is only allowed to travel in economy class. The next flight must start in the same place the previous one ended, and he can only travel in one direction, with no backtracking.
“We want to show just how far you can go in low cost, and see which airlines are offering the best service for those on business and on a budget,” Quest added.
Travel Daily will be interviewing Quest once he completes the trip on 19 March, so stay tuned to find out how the journey went and which LCCs he recommends.
