The Association of British Travel Agents believes that 1.8 million Brits will head abroad this bank holiday weekend.
Of those going overseas, Spain remains the most popular destination with the Balearic and Canary Islands being amongst the favourite choices. Barcelona is one of the most popular choices for city breaks.
Mark Tanzer, ABTA chief executive said: “The bank holiday weekend is always one of the busiest of the year as we see holidaymakers jetting off to enjoy the end of their summer breaks. The return of the good weather here in the UK will also provide another boost for domestic tourism.”
In terms of those staying in the UK, domestic tour operators have seen a rise in demand too – with London proving the most popular destination.
The association also confirmed that the busiest airport would be Heathrow with 425,000 passengers departing, 255,000 from Gatwick, 160,000 from Manchester, 125,000 from Stansted and 69,000 from Birmingham.
