SIA spreads wings in Africa

SIA will codeshare on Ethiopian Airlines’ flights

Singapore Airlines will add multiple new African destinations to its route map this summer, following the expansion of its codeshare partnership with Ethiopian Airlines.

Effective 1 June 2017, SIA passengers will be able to fly on Ethiopian Airlines’ brand new Singapore-Addis Ababa flights, and then connect onwards to countries all across the African continent, including Botswana, Burkina Faso, Chad, Congo, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Mozambique, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

All of these services will be bookable via SIA on the ‘SQ’ flight code.

In turn, Ethiopian Airlines passengers will be offered connections from Singapore to destinations in Australia, China, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand and Vietnam, using SIA’s network.

“This significant expansion of our important partnership is in line with our ongoing effort to continuously expand our network reach and to offer customers more travel options and convenience when travelling between Africa, Asia and Southwest Pacific,” said SIA’s senior vice president of marketing planning, Tan Kai Ping.

SIA and Ethiopian are both members of the Star Alliance. They began codesharing on each other’s flights to and from Dubai in 2011.
