Amadeus hooks up with Mastercard: “Meaningful change will require a fundamental shift”

Amadeus - Destination X

Amadeus and Mastercard announced a new collaboration today, which sees the travel tech firm  Mastercard’s City Possible network to co-create, pilot, and scale solutions to the most pressing urban challenges around the world.

City Possible was launched by Mastercard in 2018 as a first-of-its-kind partnership and co-creation initiative to provide city leaders with a platform to harness the insights and solutions with academia and the private sector to make cities safer, healthier, sustainable and more inclusive.

Amadeus joins a diverse set of leading academic and industry partners from around the world including the Technology and Entrepreneurship Center at Harvard University (TECH), the United Nations Global Compact, IDEMIA, Here Technologies and Willis Towers Watson, in addition to the community of over 40  global cities.

We recognize that meaningful change will require a fundamental shift in the way city and business leaders work together, so we established City Possible to enable public-private collaboration,” said Miguel Gamino, executive vice president and head of Global Cities at Mastercard. “With Amadeus’ heritage in travel and tourism technology, and their ongoing focus on innovation, they will help our network of cities tackle one of the biggest present challenges – urban mobility.”

“Inclusive mobility should be the cornerstone of any city’s plans for the future – to ensure that existing transport systems continue to work for everyone,” says Simon Akeroyd, vice president of corporate strategy and business development, Asia Pacific at Amadeus. “We’re passionate about using our expertise in travel technology to help cities modernize their infrastructure and becoming a City Possible partner now allows us to do this on a bigger scale.”
