Bhutan to boost tourism via first international film festival

The Bhutan Film Institute (BFI) announced the launch of the Kingdom of Bhutan International Film Festival (KBIFF). 

Slated for 17 to 23 September, the KBIFF opens the country to film enthusiasts, industry professionals, as well as travellers seeking to experience Bhutan’s unique culture for themselves. 

As such, the festival marks a significant milestone in Bhutan’s cultural landscape, showcasing the power of cinema to inspire, educate, and entertain. 

According to festival director Tshering Phuntsho: “This festival celebrates creativity and storytelling, and we are excited to bring together filmmakers and audiences from around the globe to our beautiful country.”

The KBIFF’s organisers plan to feature a diverse selection of films from around the world, showcasing the talents of both emerging and established filmmakers. Film screenings will be held between 20 and 22 September

Festival highlights include the opening gala in Paro on 19 September; workshops and panel discussions with filmmakers and industry professionals; and the awarding ceremony which wraps up the event on the 23rd, celebrating cinematic achievements among participants.
