Intrepid and Journey Beyond expand in Northern Territory

Intrepid Travel and Journey Beyond have announced significant acquisitions in Australia's Northern Territory, marking a strategic expansion in the region. Intrepid Travel has acquired Wild Bush Luxury from Experience Co, which includes premium accommodation and guided walking experiences such as the Arkaba Walk and Homestead in South Australia, The Maria Island Walk in Tasmania, and Bamurru Plains in the Northern Territory. This acquisition aligns with Intrepid's goal to lead low-impact, nature-based travel, as stated by Brett Mitchell, ANZ Managing Director of Intrepid Travel.

Meanwhile, Journey Beyond has agreed to purchase the operational assets of Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia, which operates Ayers Rock Resort and Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre. This transaction, facilitated by the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC), aims to maximise Indigenous benefits and support the long-term success of these iconic destinations. Joe Morrison, CEO of ILSC, emphasised the importance of this agreement in fulfilling the ILSC’s obligations to return land to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Both acquisitions are expected to bring significant economic benefits to local Indigenous communities. Intrepid Travel's acquisition will officially integrate Wild Bush Luxury into its portfolio by February 2026, whilst the Journey Beyond transaction is set to finalise in early 2026. These developments underscore a commitment to sustainable tourism and enhanced cultural experiences in Australia.
