Vietnam Airlines has inaugurated its first direct flight service between Ho Chi Minh City and Copenhagen, Denmark, establishing a crucial air link between Vietnam and Northern Europe. The inaugural flight, VN39, took off from Tan Son Nhat International Airport on 15 December at 10:45 pm, landing in Copenhagen after a 12-hour journey. This new route is part of the airline's European network expansion strategy for 2025–2030, catering to the rising demand for tourism, business travel, and family visits.
The service will operate thrice weekly, with flights departing Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings, and returning from Copenhagen on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings. This direct connection is expected to benefit the Vietnamese community in Northern Europe, estimated at 70,000 people, and boost the number of European visitors to Vietnam.
Dang Anh Tuan, Executive Vice President of Vietnam Airlines, highlighted the strategic importance of Copenhagen in the airline's European growth. "Our nonstop service dramatically reduces travel time between Vietnam and Denmark, enhances our competitive edge, and creates new opportunities for tourism, business, and cultural exchange across Northern Europe," he stated.
Copenhagen, known for its livability and as a transport hub, offers convenient connections to Sweden, Norway, and Finland. The new route provides a faster and more efficient travel option compared to previous itineraries requiring transit stops. Vietnam Airlines now joins a select group of Southeast Asian carriers offering direct flights to Northern Europe, further solidifying its presence in the region.
