Intrepid Travel has unveiled a new series of "Uncommon Day Tours" in Barcelona, Paris, and Venice, aiming to provide travellers with alternative experiences away from typical tourist hotspots. These tours, developed by Intrepid's local teams, are designed to address the growing demand for responsible travel amidst the challenges of overtourism in Europe.
As European cities face record visitor numbers, Intrepid Travel's initiative seeks to support local communities by guiding tourists to lesser-known neighbourhoods. Christian Wolters, President for Canada at Intrepid Travel, emphasised the importance of travelling in smaller groups and choosing experiences that benefit local communities. "We wanted to offer Canadians travelling to Europe this summer a fresh and more intentional way to experience some of the continent's most visited cities," Wolters stated.
The tours, limited to groups of no more than 12, last two to three hours and focus on cultural exchange and supporting local businesses. Erica Kritikides, General Manager Experiences at Intrepid Travel, noted, "These tours are proof that you can still have incredible local experiences in some of the world's most popular destinations."
Highlights include visiting a community garden in Barcelona's El Born, exploring Venice's Pescheria di Rialto market, and enjoying unique views of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The tours commence in June 2026, expanding Intrepid's offerings to 25 day tours across 11 European cities. For more information, visit Intrepid Travel's website
