Jetstar and Qantas are set to launch new domestic flights connecting Brisbane with the soon-to-open Western Sydney International Airport, marking a significant development in Australian aviation. Jetstar will commence operations on 26 October, offering three weekly flights using Airbus A320 aircraft. Qantas will follow with its first flights from 28 March 2027, providing four weekly services on QantasLink Embraer E190 aircraft.

The Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport is scheduled to open on 25 October 2026. This new connection is expected to serve Greater Western Sydney's population of approximately 2.85 million, projected to reach 3 million in the 2030s.

Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff highlighted the importance of this new route, stating, “Western Sydney is home to millions of Australians and we’re proud to be among the first destinations connected to Australia's newest major airport.” He emphasised the potential for increased tourism, business, and investment opportunities.

Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson expressed excitement about the new airport's potential to enhance local tourism and accessibility for Western Sydney residents, who currently travel to Kingsford Smith Airport for flights. “Jetstar has an incredible history of growing new markets,” Hudson noted, adding that the new routes will provide better access to low fares.

Brisbane Airport, Australia's most connected domestic airport, is investing $5 billion over the next five years to enhance its facilities, further solidifying its status as Queensland’s premier gateway
