The New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport has released its first Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report, showcasing significant strides in sustainability and innovation. Supported by Schneider Electric's SE Advisory Services, the report details the terminal's efforts to build climate-resilient infrastructure and enhance energy efficiency, with a focus on long-term sustainable operations.

Central to these efforts is the development of a microgrid energy system, one of the largest in New York City, and a substantial solar array. This infrastructure, designed by AlphaStruxure and featuring Schneider Electric equipment, aims to bolster resilience and reduce environmental impact, ensuring reliable operations during grid disruptions and extreme weather.

The terminal, set to open its first phase in 2026, will cover 26 million square feet and serve up to 23 million passengers annually. It is part of a $9.5 billion (US$9.5 billion) investment in the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's $19 billion (US$19 billion) transformation of JFK Airport. The project promises over 10,000 jobs, including 6,000 union construction positions.

The ESG report outlines environmental initiatives such as an all-electric ground support equipment fleet, waste and water management strategies, and progress towards LEED Gold certification. Additionally, the terminal has invested $172 million (US$172 million) in local outreach programmes and issued over $3.9 billion (US$3.9 billion) in green bonds to finance sustainable infrastructure.

Chris Collins, Senior Vice President of Digital Buildings at Schneider Electric, stated, "JFK New Terminal One is setting a new benchmark for sustainable, future-ready airport infrastructure." The full ESG report is available online, providing a comprehensive overview of the terminal's progress and future goals
