Mena the baby elephant was on hand to lend a trunk at the groundbreaking ceremony for Laguna Phuket’s Latitude, the upcoming waterfront venue at Asia’s premier destination resort designed to host a variety of MICE programmes and other events.
The popular pachyderm is a junior member of Laguna Phuket’s resident elephants that charm guests and visitors at the resort’s seven deluxe hotel and villa properties. Helped by her mahout, she assisted Michael Ayling, Managing Director of Laguna Resorts & Hotels Plc., in the ceremony to launch construction at Latitude’s tropical lagoon setting.
Latitude is scheduled for completion in mid-2010 and will occupy a total concrete surface area of 1,500 sq. m., with a 1,000 sq. m. marquee-style all-weather structure capable of accommodating up to 1,000 guests theatre style, 800 for cocktails, and 600 for banquets; and 450 sq. m. prefunction area, all surrounded by lush, landscaped grounds. The structure’s modular design will enable versatile configurations for a variety of large and small events.
Situated at the heart of Laguna Phuket, Latitude will be within minutes of all the resort’s hotels and villas, 18-hole golf course, luxury spas and shopping – as well as Quest Adventures, its on-site corporate training and teambuilding centre. Laguna Phuket’s unique setting and facilities will offer endless opportunities to stage memorable events at the Latitude site, which has a west-facing aspect perfect for Phuket’s famed tropical sunsets.
