ABTA has submitted its response to the Government’s Airport Commission highlighting the need for extra capacity in the south-east and better ground connections to airports.
In its recent survey the association found 45% of respondents wanted an hour or less journey time while 33% did not mind between one and two hours, meaning only 22% would be happy to travel for a longer time.
The association’s submission also urged the Government to consider business and leisure aviation models as a mix.
“It’s essential that when the Government looks at airport capacity particularly in the South East, it recognises the interdependence of business and leisure travel and does not prioritise one over the other. It also needs a coherent policy on improving surface access to the airports,” said Mark Tanzer, chief executive at ABTA.
Further results in its survey found 62% would prefer to travel from a local airport and 29% do not like to take connecting flights.
