Air Astana boosts transit traffic and expands routes

Air Astana Group has reported a significant 65% increase in international transit passenger traffic through Kazakhstan in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year. This surge has been attributed to the expansion of its route network and strategic reallocation of capacity from the Middle East to destinations such as Seoul, Bangkok, and Istanbul.

Since the start of 2026, the airline has facilitated over 137,000 transit passengers, with international transit figures surpassing 48,000. The airline's growth strategy includes launching direct flights from Almaty to Shanghai and planning new routes from Astana to Guangzhou, Larnaca, and Dalaman. Additionally, Air Astana is increasing flight frequencies on existing routes, including Seoul.

Air Astana Group, the largest airline group in Central Asia and the Caucasus by revenue and fleet size, operates 63 aircraft across its full-service airline, Air Astana, and its low-cost carrier, FlyArystan. The group offers a mix of domestic, regional, and international flights across various regions, including the Far East and Europe.

The airline has been consistently recognised for its service, receiving accolades such as the Best Airline in Central Asia & CIS by SkyTrax for 14 consecutive years. FlyArystan has also been awarded as the Best Low-Cost Carrier in the region. Air Astana's continued expansion and service excellence position it as a key player in the Central Asian aviation market
