AirAsia announces resumption of Kuala Lumput-Wuhan route

The resumption marks a significant milestone in the airline’s East Asia expansion strategy

AirAsia Malaysia reinforces its position as the leading low-cost carrier between Malaysia and China through the resumption of its Kuala Lumpur-Wuhan service.

The resumption marks a significant milestone in the airline’s East Asia expansion strategy as travel demand between Malaysia and China continues to rebound strongly.

As such, AirAsia is progressively rebuilding and expanding its China network, reactivating key routes to meet growing passenger demand while strengthening Kuala Lumpur’s role as a strategic regional hub.

Furthermore, the reinstatement of the Wuhan route reflects confidence in the China market and underscores AirAsia’s long-term commitment to maintaining the highest market share of almost 30 percent among Malaysian low-cost carriers operating to China.

Four flights a week

From 22nd May, AirAsia will operate four weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Wuhan, reconnecting Malaysia directly to one of Central China’s most important economic and education centres.

The route is expected to stimulate leisure, business and education-driven travel, while enhancing connectivity beyond Kuala Lumpur to Asean, Australia and other key destinations across the AirAsia network spanning more than 150 cities.

According to AirAsia Malaysia general manager Fareh Mazputra: “China has always been a cornerstone market for AirAsia and today we are proud to reaffirm our leadership position with the resumption of the Kuala Lumpur-Wuhan route. When we first launched this route in 2017, it recorded strong two-way demand, with an average passenger load factor of more than 80 percent, reflecting its solid market potential. With Wuhan’s return, we are not only restoring connectivity but strengthening our dominance as the airline with the widest network in terms of capacity between Malaysia and China. This reflects our confidence in sustained demand growth and our commitment to supporting tourism flows, trade ties and people-to-people connections between both nations.”

To celebrate the resumption, AirAsia will offer promotional all-in one way fares from RM399 for flights from Kuala Lumpur to Wuhan, while flights from Wuhan to Kuala Lumpur are available from CNY608 all-in one way.

Bookings are available from today, 2nd March, till 15th March, for travel between 22nd May and 24th October; note that promotional fares are exclusively available via the AirAsia website and the AirAsia MOVE app.
