AirAsia touches down in Shanghai
AirAsia touched down in Shanghai for this first time today, marking the start of a new scheduled service from Kuala Lumpur.
The low-cost carrier’s long-haul unit, AirAsia X, will now operate to the Chinese city’s Pudong International Airport six times a week, before moving to a daily service from May 2013 onwards. AirAsia X will use its two-class, 377-seat Airbus A330 aircraft on the route.
“Pudong International Airport is a key aviation hub for the Asia region which would further open up new affordable travel to guests tapping into Shanghai and its surrounding regions and connect to over 85 destinations offered by the AirAsia group across ASEAN and beyond,” said Azran Osman-Rani, CEO of AirAsia X said.
“We believe our presence in Shanghai would further solidify AirAsia Group’s position in China, offering guests a more affordable travel option and greater flight connections and flexibility between ASEAN and China.”
Shanghai becomes the AirAsia Group’s 14th destination in China, following Hangzhou, Beijing, Chengdu, Guilin, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Nanning, Kunming, Wuhan, Chongqing, Xi’an, Macau and Hong Kong.
