ICICI Lombard's inaugural WanderSafe Report 2025, developed in collaboration with Hansa Research, highlights Asia as the preferred destination for 63% of Indian outbound travellers. The report, which examines travel trends and protection priorities, reveals a significant interest in self-curated travel and digital-first protection solutions among Indian tourists.
The report indicates that 60% of Indian travellers book their trips independently or through online travel agencies, reflecting a shift towards more personalised travel experiences. Additionally, 62% of Gen Z travellers plan to engage in adventure sports during their next trip, showcasing a growing appetite for experiential travel.
Despite the enthusiasm for travel, the report identifies several challenges faced by Indian travellers. Visa issues, logistical concerns, and a lack of clarity regarding insurance were cited by 41% of respondents. However, awareness of travel insurance is high, with 88% of travellers acknowledging its importance, driven by recent disruptions in the travel industry.
ICICI Lombard's TripSecure+, an AI-enabled travel product, aims to address these evolving needs by offering adaptive and personalised protection solutions. Anand Singhi, Chief Retail and Government Business at ICICI Lombard, emphasised the importance of innovation and empathy in travel protection, stating, "We envisage a world where protection is as intuitive as booking a flight."
The WanderSafe Report also notes a rising interest in long-haul destinations among Gen Z and Millennials, with Australia emerging as a popular choice. As Indian travellers continue to explore global destinations, the demand for comprehensive and flexible travel protection is expected to grow, shaping the future of the travel insurance market.
