Representative ImageThe Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA) has expressed enthusiasm for the launch of Jetstar and Qantas domestic flights from Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI). Tickets are now available for flights connecting WSI to Melbourne, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast, marking a significant development for Australian travellers.
Starting 25 October 2026, Jetstar will operate 14 weekly flights to Melbourne, alongside four to the Gold Coast and three to Brisbane. Qantas will join on 28 March 2027, offering four weekly flights to both Brisbane and Melbourne using QantasLink Embraer E190 aircraft. This expansion provides new opportunities for travel agents and tour operators, particularly in the rapidly growing Western Sydney area.
WSI is set to become a major freight hub with its 24-hour Cargo Precinct opening on 26 July 2026. Qantas Freight will be among the first to utilise this facility, further enhancing the airport's significance.
Dean Long, CEO of ATIA, remarked, "This is exciting news for Australian travellers and for the travel industry. More flights always means more options for travellers, and more options means more business for the travel agents and tour operators who are there to help Australians plan their trips."
The ATIA, representing Australia's $70.6 billion (£70.6 billion) travel industry, sees WSI as a transformative addition to the country's travel landscape, offering millions in Western Sydney direct access to the national network for the first time. This development is expected to boost connectivity and business opportunities across the nation.
