Barrhead Travel has signed new landlord contracts to open several new branches in the next year.
The Scottish travel company is to expand its retail store footprint even further in the next 12 months with 10,000 sq. ft. of space and a GBP300,000 investment.
Shops will be opened in Glasgow, Dumfries, Greenock, Dumbarton, Carlisle and Inverness and comes after the group announced a new office focused on business and luxury travel in Glasgow’s city centre.
Its new stores have come from favourable deals with local landlords.
“Our retail business is in a strong position and as a potential investor in a number of local communities we have had a great deal of support locally,” said Bill Munro, founder and chairman of Barrhead Travel.
“Because of the competitive deals being offered to us by landlords, plans for new openings in these locations are now very much on the table – which will be a welcome boost for jobseekers and customers alike following the nationwide closures announced by Thomas Cook and Thomson. Fortunately, we are in a position to offer employment to workers searching for a new challenge,” he added.
Aside from its growth in the high street, the group boosted its presence in the online and cruise sectors by recently acquiring The Cruise Specialists.
